Construction apprentice for major Homebuilder lands on site job as contractor
A budding young apprentice has completed a Bricklaying programme run by Barratt Developments in York, earning his place as a subcontractor for the Homebuilder, working at its site in Sheffield.
19-year-old Daniel Ballard joined Barratt Developments Yorkshire West in August 2021, splitting his time between working on-site in Darfield and Worksop and classroom learning at the Homebuilder’s education partner, York College. Over the two years, Daniel has succeeded in all modules and gained invaluable first-hand experience in order to become a fully qualified Bricklayer.
On the completion of his Bricklaying apprenticeship, Daniel Ballard, Bricklayer, at Oughtibridge Valley said: “I started my apprenticeship in September 2021 and have learnt a lot along the way. We were sent to a great college where we had friendly tutors going the extra mile to help us. The on-site experience was vital as it gave me the opportunity to stay on with Barratt Developments and continue my learning”.
Josh Corker, Contracts Manager and Apprentice Champion, added: “We’re really proud of how far Daniel has come over the last two years. He was a huge help on-site and we’ve seen how he’s been able to apply his classroom learning into practice. We’re so pleased we will still see him at Oughtibridge Valley in Sheffield, and we wish him all the best at the beginning of his career.
“For anyone interested in kick starting their own career in construction we’d recommend looking at our hugely rewarding ASPIRE Graduate Scheme and applying early. Our programme combines theory with practical, hands-on experience on a real construction site and could be the beginning of something very special.”
