Could summer 2021 see the comeback of the silent disco?

United Kingdom, 13th May 2021: A recent 2019/20 report from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health has revealed that a total of 131,645 noise complaints were recorded by local authorities in England, with music/parties and residential noise accounting for the largest proportion of the complaints.

Noise is the single largest cause of complaints made to local authorities in the UK, and according to the World Health Organisation, excessive noise seriously harms human health and interferes with people’s daily activities. It can disturb sleep, cause cardiovascular and psychophysiological effects, reduce performance and provoke annoyance responses and changes in social behaviour.

Nearly 24 million people believe that antisocial noise from neighbours during lockdown has adversely impacted their mental wellbeing, according to the research.

With step 3 of the road map out of lockdown being just a few days away, allowing groups of up to 30 people to meet outdoors, the rise in garden parties is inevitable. But,what can Brits do to ensure they are not among the 131,645 causing noise complaints?

Online marketplace OnBuy.com has the perfect solution - bring back the silent disco!

Created by eco-minded people in the 1990s, silent discos were offered as an answer to noise pollution. Quiet discos and the technology that makes this trend possible have gained popularity by providing a practical-yet-fun solution to loud parties, simultaneously delighting party-goers and reducing noise complaints.

With clubs and raves still being shut due to the difficulty of making them Covid-secure, organising a silent disco could be the perfect solution of satisfying party guests, whilst avoiding being a noisy neighbour. It’s as easy as asking them to bring along their favourite headphones and playlists… and maybe a glow stick or two.

Any event as unusual as a silent garden full of dancing people, young or old, is sure to be a big hit!
