STAYCATION INSPIRES SHOW HOME STYLING IN DEVON
THE trends for staycationing and working from home have inspired the interior designers behind a new show home in Barnstaple, Devon.
Elan Homes has opened a professionally styled and fully furnished finished example of the five-bedroom detached Dunham at Pickards at Larkbear. It’s available to view by appointment only, offering an insight into life at the popular development.
Elan sales director Tracey Ball said: “Demand for homes in this part of Devon is such that even before the show home opened, we had sold all of the homes on release and started taking early bird reservations for the next phase. The list of potential purchasers eager to buy here is growing now that people can view the show home and see the quality and finish we offer. It really helps bring the dream move alive.”
Offering 1,461 sq ft of living space, the show home is a generously proportioned family home, styled by Edward Thomas Interiors.
Andy Richardson, managing director at Edward Thomas Interiors explained: “The Dunham is a spectacular three-storey townhouse with plenty of space for growing families. Our brief was to create a beautifully classic home, highlighting the versatility of space that can be personalised to suit the tastes and hobbies of the whole family.
“Using navy and rust colourways as the starting point, we accessorised with antique brass and gold finishes, wooden furniture and some quirky, playful wallpapering for a splash of personality – look out for the Mary Poppins inspired walking stick design as you walk in and do a double take at the brickwork on the top floor!”
The well-equipped kitchen is at the front of the property, with a combined lounge/ dining room at the rear.
“The spacious lounge diner makes an inviting place to relax. We’ve added two large L-shape sofas positioned around the French doors so for summer evenings the garden becomes an extension of the home” Andy explained. “The dark mango wood media unit with honeycomb brass marquetry makes an eye-catching piece of furniture too.”
Three bedrooms, one with en-suite, plus the family bathroom are on the first floor. Two further bedrooms and a shower room are on the second floor.
“The bedrooms are designed to provide sanctuary and peace. The main bedroom is full of rich, warming colours and a paisley patterned headboard while the guest bedroom, on the top floor, features mirrored furniture and leaf print accessories,” Andy added.
“We included two children’s rooms in our design, one for a teenager with a rock/music theme and one for a younger child which has an amazing VW camper van bed and tent inspired by the trend for staycationing and getting outdoors! The final space is easily a fifth bedroom but we’ve styled as a home office with wooden desk, floating shelves and freestanding ladder storage.”
The Dunham is one of 57 new homes being built by Elan at Pickards at Larkbear as part of a new, wider neighbourhood being created off Old Torrington Road.
The wider new community, will include a new primary school, a local centre with potential uses including a small shop, surgery, pharmacy and community hall; and there will be acres of open space and woodland, plus cycle paths and other facilities.
