It’s starting to get warmer; the days are getting longer, and the warm light is making it a little more obvious where you haven’t dusted in a while… it’s time for a spring clean!

Although we know we should be cleaning thoroughly throughout the year, there’s no better time than spring to put on those rubber gloves and give everything a deep clean.

Over the past 12 months, many of us have built up clutter and mess1 as we’ve been inside our homes so much, with a large number of us working in the kitchen.

With this in mind, Wren Kitchens has put together some kitchen cleaning hacks to make it easier for everyone to get their kitchen sparkling this spring.

Step 1: Clean out your drawers and cabinets

Whether you live alone or have a house full of people, it’s easy for your drawers and cabinets to become cluttered. Nobody likes unorganised chaos, so use spring as the perfect excuse for a clear out.

Things to consider:

  • If you come across items that you forgot existed and has no use to you, don’t be afraid to give them to charity.
  • Once you have organised your items and they’re out of the way, wipe down the drawers and cabinets from the inside out, whilst giving any crockery a spritz too.
  • White vinegar can help remove any cloudy stains from glass. All you need to do is soak the glassware in white vinegar for a few minutes, then rinse and dry.

Step 2: Organise your pantry

Pantries are a fantastic addition to the kitchen and if you’re lucky enough to have one, there’s no doubt that you’ll want to make the most of it.

Things to consider:

  • If it has been a while since your pantry last had a deep clean, take everything out and give the contents a clean whilst wiping down all the shelving and exterior.
  • Invest in some jars and organisers for your pantry, you can place things in alphabetical order to make it easier for you to find things and avoid the pantry getting unorganised and cluttered in the future.

Step 3: Deep clean your oven and hob

Cleaning your oven and hob is a task that many avoid due to the time it can take, but it’s so worth the work.

Things to consider:

  • There are many oven cleaning kits you can buy, but if you are looking for a natural DIY way to clean your oven, combine one cup of water and one cup of vinegar with lemon oil. This combination will help degrease your oven and have it looking fresh in no time!
  • Don’t forget to clean your extractor hood and wipe down your extraction grills.

Step 4: Give your worktops and appliances some TLC

So much gets spilt on top of worktops so it can be hard to keep them looking pristine. Also, we do so much living on our kitchen tops that we can sometimes forget to give our appliances that extra TLC. Your annual Spring Clean is a great time to give your toaster, microwave, kettle, and any other appliances some attention.

Things to consider:

  • Remove stains on worktops by scrubbing gently with a cream cleaner, or a paste made of bicarbonate of soda and water. On textured surfaces, you can use a nylon bristle brush.
  • If you are looking for the perfect hack to descale your kettle, fill it with both water and white vinegar in equal measures. Boil the kettle and then leave it to cool. Afterwards, rinse the kettle through several times before finally boiling it once more to remove any odours from the vinegar.

Step 5: Freshen up your fridge and freezer

Another task that can be sometimes avoided is giving your fridge and freezer a deep clean. By taking all the contents out of your fridge and wiping down your shelves, you’re allowing your fridge to freshen up, making it a hygienic and clean space for your food.

Things to consider:

  • Baking soda and hot water are a great way to keep your fridge smelling amazing, and the solution can also help remove tough stains too.

Step 6: Scrub your sink and dishwasher

Your drains see a lot of waste day to day and therefore you must keep them clean to avoid any smells or blockages. In addition to this, you may find that it has been some time since you last sorted through your dishcloths and sponges, so organise them and throw any damaged or overused ones out.

If you have a stainless-steel sink, use flour and buff away… this will make your sink looking sparkling clean!

Step 7: Give your kitchen one last blast

You’re nearly there! After you have spent time targeting your specific kitchen spaces, it’s a good idea to give your kitchen one final blast…from mopping the floor, cleaning out the bins, and giving anything leftover one last clean down.

Following these seven steps, your kitchen should feel amazing again and your annual spring clean hopefully won’t feel too tedious!
